Animal Hair

As experienced hair merchants, we supply both animal hair and human hair, with a strong commitment to ethical and sustainable practices across everything we do at TashaJacks.

The animal hair we offer is sourced responsibly through seasonal shearing. This process takes place periodically, allowing the animal’s coat to grow naturally before being gently sheared again. It is a humane, sustainable method that ensures no harm comes to the animal at any stage.

YAK

Yak fibre is produced from the coat hair of yaks (Bos grunniens), a long-haired bovine mainly found in the Himalayan region, Tibetan plateau, and some areas of Mongolia and Central Asia. The harsh, cold, and high-altitude environment forces yaks to develop a thick, soft coat (down) for insulation.  

This material is renowned for its natural durability and strength. Unlike synthetic fibers, yak hair can withstand frequent use without significant wear and tear.

The softest yak fiber comes from the undercoat (belly) of the animal. This downy undercoat is shed naturally during the spring and early summer as the yaks adapt to warmer temperatures. 

The Tail yak is quite course in comparison and is often used for making body hair pieces such as beards and moustaches. It is available in lengths from 8″ to 30″ in a natural white colour or can be coloured to order. The Belly yak comes in shorter lengths of 6″ up to 12″. Again we can supply this in a natural white colour or colour of your choice in quantities of 25g upwards.

MOHAIR

Our soft Mohair comes from angora goats and is suitable for recreating baby hair, body hair pieces and the finer hair around the front sections of some wigs.

It is available in either 3″-6″ or 7″-9″ in quantities of 25g upwards. Longer lengths are available on request. We can supply mohair in a variety of natural colours to include white and fawn colours or we can dye the mohair to colour match to a sample, colour chart or photographs supplied.

All our Animal hair is double drawn and hand blended to our client’s requirements. The hair is finished neatly, tied with a cotton tie, ready for use by a qualified technician.
